Creating vs. Buying Halloween Costumes
Do you have the time and the creativity?
Creating Costumes or Buying Costumes
Halloween without a costume pretty much looses all meaning. There are such a vast variety of costumes now days that it can be quite the challenge to decide what to wear. Most people are buying their own professionally made costumes now online or from a specialty store. But some people still like to do the old fashioned thing and create their own costume.
Creating one’s own costume to some people is good fun. To others it is a serious art. It is a great party idea to have a homemade costume competition. There are many great ideas out there on home made costume ideas. Some are pretty easy and others are much more difficult. Depending on how much money you are willing to spend on materials, and time putting them together, you can create a masterpiece.
A good example of a homemade costume is the mummy. All you need to do is buy some kind of gauze wrap. Buy an off white so it adds an aged effect. Just wrap yourself up. And it desired, add a little fake blood. Look how easy that is.
There
are numerous other examples of things you can create on your
own, such as: Pirate costumes, robot costumes, clown outfits,
and Scarecrow costumes. The possibilities are limitless.
It is very important to have a good make up kit for most costumes. Props are also key. Oftentimes a costume requires special clothes. For example if you wanted to dress up as Sherlock Holmes, you would need to buy a trench coat (special clothes), a pipe, hat, and glasses (all props).
Dressing up babies for Halloween (ages 1 ½ to 2 ½) is also a great idea. We’ve all seen the famous sunflower costume and of course the bumble bee costume. Both of these costumes can be homemade or bought already made.
Both making and buying costumes can be a real blast. They both have pros and cons. The nicest thing about buying a costume premade is that you have more time to do other Halloween preparations, or just more time in general. It’s also nice to buy premade because you can see beforehand exactly what it looks like and know it will look good. This is a luxury that does not come with creating a homemade costume. It could turn out really good, or it could be a huge disaster if you don’t have much experience! However, creating costumes with the family can also be a great quality time project for all. Whatever you decide to do this year, make sure that you go out looking your absolute best!
