Halloween Activity Ideas
If you’re a parent, you know how eager the kids are to get
outside on Halloween night. Often, by three or four o’clock,
they’re ready to go. Due to that, we decided to give a few ideas of thing
you can do to keep the kid’s occupied until dusk. There are many simple
crafts and activities that can be done to have a fun little
party before the night rolls in.
One good craft idea that is a good way to have fun passing the time is make pasta skeletons. You’ll need back paper for a background, a variety of types of pasta, and of course glue. Give each kid a black sheet of paper. On a table, lay out a few bottles of glue (generally bottles of glue are optimum since glue sticks don’t work well with pasta), and all the different types of pasta. Quickly show younger kids how to glue noodles to the page and them let em loose!
Another great idea for older kids is good
old fashioned pumpkin carving. Turn an ordinary ol’ pumpkin
into a jack o lantern! This is done just by the regular cutting the top
off with a jagged pattern and hollowing out the guts. From there just
carve away. If you’re going to give the kids knifes, make sure they are
old enough that they won’t hurt themselves. Also, make sure that the
knifes are NOT too sharp. If you want to carve a jack o lantern with
the younger kids, give them markers to draw faces on the pumpkin and
then have them watch you as you cut it out.
No Halloween could be complete without the traditional “bob
for apples”. This one is pretty self explanatory but here’s
a few additional tips. Use a bucket big enough for someone
to get their head in. Also, make sure the edges of the bucket
are not jagged. If someone hits their head, you don’t want them to hurt
themselves.
Having good Halloween food is also key to having a nice little pre Halloween party. Cookies with black and orange icing with bats, spider webs, and ghosts are always a big hit. But to really go over the top a great treat is “worms in dirt”. This simple treat is made by first crushing a bunch of Oreos. Next, mix the Oreos in with chocolate pudding. The ratio is not important, just add pudding and mix until you get the consistency you want. The last step is to add gummy worms. I enjoy the tart gummies myself. Kids will go absolutely nuts over this treat and will have a blast eating it.
Now that you’ve done all of these fun ideas, it is dark outside and now time to go trick or treat. Make sure to review safety tips before letting the kids loose.
